A pool in Bloxwich has been rejuvenated thanks to more than two years of partnership work.

Walsall Council, in collaboration with the Canal & River Trust, Enovert Community Trust and volunteers, has brought Baileys Pool back into community use.

The work was made possible thanks to a £40,000 grant from Enovert Community Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF). This funding was supported by £8,000 from the Canal and River Trust and £7,000 through Walsall Council’s Healthy Spaces Team.

A key result of the work, which started back in 2022, is the improved accessibility of the site. This is thanks to improvements to the pathway around the pool, tree works, infrastructure removal and litter picking.

It is not just residents who have benefited from the work either, as the biodiversity in the area has sprung into life after significant work was carried out to clear the pool itself.

“ This work is a great example of the power of collaboration for the benefit of all.

“The area now has a wonderful space which has been brought back into community use rather than going to waste.

“By improving our green spaces, we support biodiversity and create a more sustainable environment for future generations.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who made this possible with all their hard work. “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing

“ The Trustees of ECT like to support projects that maximise public access and also those that enhance biodiversity.

“The improvements to Baileys Pool have hit both of these priorities and it was so pleasing to see for myself the incredible change to the site that this project has brought about.

“I am sure that local people will be delighted to visit this green oasis, particular as the wildlife springs back. “

Angela Haymonds, Trust Manager of Enovert Community Trust

“ Working on this project has been wonderful. To work in collaboration with partners to achieve such a significant transformation is something that I personally feel very proud of.

“These works help to deliver nature recovery as well as wellbeing benefits for the local community. This project truly demonstrates the power of collaborative action, and I look forward to my next visit with the family. “

Charles Hughes, Environmental Scientist and Project Manager, Canal & River Trust
