More than three thousand (3,400) students who live or study in Sandwell have had their exam results today.
Students from all over the borough have achieved top grades in A Level and BTEC qualifications.
Councillor Yvonne Davies, leader of Sandwell Council,commented on the results. She said: “I am very proud of what our young people have achieved in schools and academies across Sandwell.
“Credit should of course be given to the hard work and dedication of the students but these results can only be achieved with great school staff and support from parents. Congratulations to all for such amazing results.
“For those who haven’t quite achieved what they needed or are unsure what to do next, we have a dedicated exam results service with experts from Connexions Sandwell on-hand to offer advice. This service runs every weekday at Sandwell Council House in Oldbury.”
Schools and academies have shared their success with Sandwell Council.
Students and staff are celebrating at Oldbury Academy after receiving an excellent set of results. Students achieved a pass rate (A*-E) of 94.1%, and 100% of students’ entering higher education, employment or further training.
High achievers from Oldbury Academy include Fiza Mahmood who achieved grades A*, B, C and Mike Nascimento who achieved a Distinction*, two Distinctions and a grade A.
Headteacher at Oldbury Academy, Mr Philip Shackleton said: “Congratulations to all of our students, who have given their absolute all to achieve an excellent set of results.
“For many of these students, this is the culmination of the seven-year journey and they are incredible ambassadors for our school and community. I would like to wish all of our students the very best in their next steps.’
Ormiston Forge Academy in Cradley Heath is today celebrating another strong set of A level results. Students from the Academy achieved a 100% pass rate in all subjects.
Students who got their results include Gagandeep who is off to the University of Birmingham to read physics and astrophysics (he got three As and two Bs), Princess who is going to the University of Wolverhampton to read law and Vikramjeet who is going to the University of Nottingham to read physics.
Principal, Dr Lisa Mason, said: “The strong partnerships we foster between staff, students and their families have paid off resulting in outstanding levels of achievement and success for our students.
“These results are the effort of hours of hard work from students and I’d like to congratulate our students and students up and down the country who are now planning to continue their education or enter the world of work.”
James Topham, headteacher at Wood Green Academy in Wednesbury congratulated students, staff and parents on a great set of results. He said: “I am incredibly proud to announce another great set of A Level results for students at Wood Green Academy with students adapting well to the new A Level examinations with an increase of grades achieved at the top end.
“I would like to congratulate all the students at Wood Green for all the hard work they put in and also to thank all the staff and parents for their work and the support they have given, which has led to these fantastic results.”
Students from Wood Green Academy achieving top grades include Faye Elmore who got an two A*s in English literature and geography and an A in English Language. Faye will study geography at Nottingham University. Tasnim Sultana got an A* in psychology, an A in sociology and a B in English language. Tanim is off to Birmingham University to study law. Ellie Morris got two Distinction* s and a C in psychology. She is going to Coventry University to study Paramedic Science.
Students at Holly Lodge are celebrating the best ever ‘A’ level and Level 3 BTEC results for the fourth consecutive year.
Individual success stories include Albi Mahmood who achieved an A in Chemistry and Sociology and a B in Biology and is going on to study Medicine at the University of Birmingham, Tanzeela Akhtar who achieved Distinction* in Health and Social Care, Distinction, Distinction in ICT and will study Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security, Ashfaque Oli three Distinctions and will study Sports Management at Coventry University, Kira Mall achieved A* in Psychology, A* in Sociology, Distinction* in Health and Social Care and an A in her Extended Project and will go on to study Mental Health Nursing at the University of Birmingham.
Headteacher, Paul Shone, said: “We are very pleased with this year’s Post 16 results and congratulations go out to both students and staff who have worked extremely hard to achieve these wonderful grades. Our grades have increased yet again this year and we are first choice for so many Post 16 students. We wish all of our leavers the very best for their future careers and are extremely proud of what they have achieved – both personally and academically.”

Phoenix Collegiate Academy students have produced some excellent exam results this year. Being one of the largest Sixth Forms in Sandwell it was pleased more than 96% of all the academic entries were graded A* to E.
Mike Smith, Headteacher at Phoenix Collegiate Academy said: “I am delighted to see so many of our students celebrating today after gaining excellent grades and fulfilling their potential. For many of them it is the culmination of two years of dedication, determination and hard work.”
A special mention was given to Renesha Hodgson who has been accepted to do law at Oxford University and becomes the first student of Phoenix to attend Oxford. Marceli Krol who achieved A*in Polish, A* in digital photography, A in maths and C in physics. Marceli will be going on to study computer science at the University of Birmingham. Manpreet Kaur was awarded a distinction* in Health and Social Care, A in Italian, B in Psychology and C in Sociology. Manpreet will now be studying Criminology at the University of Leicester.
Q3 Academy Tipton students received praise from Head of School, Keziah Featherstone. She said: “These are fantastic results. Students and staff have worked incredibly hard to achieve these fantastic results. The care and support has been incredible, allowing every individual student to learn successfully and achieve the best they can. I’ve only been the Head of School for a year but I’m so proud of everyone.
“At a time when the academy was struggling in special measures, under financial pressures and its reputation in the community was poor – at its heart were motivated and bright students with dedicated specialist staff. It is a privilege to share a small part of their successes this year and we are fully confident that the future will be even more positive for all.!
Q3 Academy Tipton student, Rosalba Nasir achieved A*,A and C and will be studying medicine at University. She said: “So grateful to receive the grades I wanted to achieve. I would like to thank all the teachers and staff who have helped me with everything and encouraged me to continue”.
Q3 Academy Great Barr Head of school, Mr Mark Arnull is delighted with the results. He said: “We are delighted that all of our hardworking students have been rewarded with such a positive set of results. All students are either going to university or into employment and we are thrilled for them and their families.
“I am equally pleased for all the staff who have supported the students from the very beginning of Year 7 or joining our Sixth Form as an new student. We wish them all the best as they begin an exciting new stage of their life.”
Q3 Academy Great Barr student, Elise Carroll achieved AAA and will be continuing her studies in English Language and Literature at Birmingham City University. She said: “I was so shocked. I thought that maybe I had got one A, I can’t believe that I have achieved three.”
There is celebration at Sandwell Academy in West Bromwich after Sixth Form students achieved another excellent set of A Level results.
Among the stand out performances were Fabiha Ahmed, who achieved and A* in Mathematics, an A in Chemistry and an A in Biology, and will gain a place at the University of Birmingham studying Medicine. Callum Taylor achieved A*’s in Mathematics and Further Mathematics and an A in Physics , he will be going on to study Mathematics at the University of Nottingham. Abhijeet Singh achieved four Distinctions in Double Sport, ICT and Business, Abhijeet will go on to study Business, Computing and ICT at Aston University.
Ian Williams, Head of the Academy, said: “I am delighted at the outcomes achieved by our sixth form students and send my fullest congratulationsto them all. I would like to thank the teachers, support staff and parents for their commitment in encouraging our talented students during their time with us.”
Health Futures UTC students Megan, Myah and Hollie gained BTECs in health and social care. Megan and Myah will be studying children’s nursing at BCU and Hollie who is looking forward to starting her apprenticeship at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Principal at Health Futures UTC, Ruth Umerah said, “Students come to Health Futures to start their careers and their destinations this year are as impressive as their qualifications. I am extremely proud of their achievements.”
