Man charged with murder a year on from fatal club fall

West Midlands Police has charged a man with murder almost a year after a clubber was found dead outside a Black Country Polish bar.

Krysztof Kowalski appeared at Dudley Magistrates Court and was charged with the murder of Daniel Pelechacz at Klimat nightclub in West Bromwich in the early hours of 30 September 2018.

It’s alleged the 38-year-old − from Greets Green Road in West Bromwich − shoved Mr Pelechacz down a flight of stairs which caused him to suffer a fatal head injury.

The 40-year-old was taken to hospital having been found by emergency services unconscious in Temple Street but was sadly pronounced dead two days later.

Unemployed Kowalski was arrested by West Midlands Police in November last year and released under investigation while enquiries progressed.

But he was re-arrested and charged with murder.

Kowalski was remanded into prison and is next due to appear at the Wolverhampton Crown Court today.

Three other men were also arrested during the course of the investigation but all have been released without charge.

Detective Sergeant Mark Allen, from the force’s Homicide Unit, said: “We’re continuing to appeal for witnesses who were at the Klimate Club on the night and who might have seen anything that could help our investigation.

“Clearly bringing a murder charge against an individual is a significant step but our enquiries continue; any information provided will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”
