Kerbside collections of mattresses, bed bases, carpets and underlay in the borough are to be made nearly 70 per cent cheaper for residents under new plans.
Dudley Council bosses are working with Textek Ltd to manage the scheme moving forwards.
It will see the cost of collection for a mattress – currently £37.44 – come down to just £12 per mattress. The new service also extends to the collection of bed bases, carpets and underlay for the same low cost.
The company will also recycle as much of the items it collects as possible, boosting the borough’s recycling rates.
The new scheme will proceed initially on a six-month trial period, with the option for a further two years if successful. It will be operated at no extra cost to the council.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services, said:
