DRIVEWAYS ‘TACKLE’ COSTLY SIX NATIONS RUGBY PARKING

  • Six Nations rugby fans could pay four times as much in traditional car parks versus rented driveways
  • Rented driveways can also be just as close to the stadiums
  • co.uk has spaces near Twickenham, Murrayfield and the Principality Stadium

Rugby fans could pay four times as much for parking at Six Nations matches by parking at traditional car parks rather than on cheaper rented driveways.

The latest research has been conducted by online parking portal YourParkingSpace.co.uk and looks at various tournament parking options for visitors to Twickenham in London, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff and Murrayfield in Edinburgh.

For instance, parking just 12 minutes’ walk from the Principality Stadium via YourParkingSpace.co.uk costs just £3 for three hours for the tournament opener between Wales and Italy on Saturday 1st February, compared to £12 at a multi-storey car park nearby.

The parking savings continue north of the border for the second-round match on Saturday 8th February with the highly-anticipated Calcutta Cup clash between Scotland and England.

YourParkingSpace.co.uk has a space for as little as £3.56 for a three hour stay and a mere eight minute stroll from the ground, while parking within central Edinburgh and still within walking distance of Murrayfield can cost a staggering £17.00.

Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, commented: “Rented driveways can provide a viable cheaper alternative to traditional car parks when visiting big sporting events.”

Visitors to Twickenham in west London on Sunday 23rd February to see England against Ireland could pay just over £10 via YourParkingSpace.co.uk for a three hour stay just three minutes from the stadium, compared to almost double that for an alternative nearby car park.

Harrison added: “Rented driveway parking is a win-win situation both for car owners and homeowners living near sports stadiums.

“For motorists it can offer cheaper parking, while those living nearby with an empty driveway can make a tidy sum by renting it out.

“In addition, pre-booked parking also has environmental benefits. Research shows that drivers with a pre-booked parking space lower their vehicle emissions through removing the need to circle the streets near stadiums looking for somewhere to park.”
