Shoppers can park for free in Sandwell Council’s town centre car parks on the two Saturdays before Christmas.
There will be no charge for parking on 12 and 19 December at Sandwell Council’s 40 pay and display car parks. Sunday parking is already free.
Free parking on 12 and 19 December does not include Sandwell Valley car parks or on-street parking, or other private car parks such as New Square Shopping Centre.
Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for sustainable transport Councillor Jackie Taylor said: “Parking will be free on the two Saturdays leading up to Christmas for any shoppers using council-run car parks in town centres across the borough.
“We hope it will encourage more people to shop local after what has been a difficult time for local businesses.”
Sandwell Council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Maria Crompton, added: “We know businesses, especially small independents, have had a tough year. Free parking on the two weekends before Christmas will hopefully be a boost for shoppers visiting our town centres.
“For anyone visiting our town centres, on these dates and at any time, please make sure you observe social distancing rules, wear a face covering in shops and wash your hands or use hand sanitiser regularly.”
