Funding awarded for infrastructure improvement

Walsall Council have been awarded funding through the National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF) to deliver the Walsall Economic Growth and Infrastructure Package.

This package includes improvements to traffic signals along Littleton Street West and Blue Lane West in the Town Centre.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, portfolio holder for Regeneration, said, ‘This NPIF funding is a welcome investment to the borough. The work planned, will improve access to the town centre and increase the capacity of the roads. Upgrading pedestrian crossings will improve the safety and experience of pedestrians shopping, working, and visiting the town centre.’

Work will start in January 2020 and will conclude in April 2020.

Temporary traffic management will be restricted to off peak or overnight periods wherever it is possible to do so but some disruption is to be expectedHowever, access to businesses, car parks and other properties will be maintained.

The traffic signal upgrades will take place at the following locations:

1.    Littleton Street West / Hatherton Street Junction

2.    Blue Lane / Green Lane / Court Way Junction

3.    Blue Lane – Pedestrian crossing near Birchills Street

4.    Littleton Street West / Stafford Street Junction
