A new mobile library is hitting the roads in Sandwell in a bid to provide books and other services to people who cannot get to their local library.
It will provide a full library service to people who are older or disabled as well as to carers.
The new mobile library will also visit schools and nurseries across the borough to support projects such as the Booktastic reading scheme.
Councillor Bob Lloyd, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, said: “We are delighted that we are able to launch the new mobile library service especially as a lot of authorities have been closing libraries and stopping their mobile service.”
Councillor Lloyd said that in order to make the best use of the new mobile library, the service was keen to listen to the thoughts of customers so improvements could be made.
The service wants people to give their views on the service and staff will also be reviewing the mobile timetable. Views can be sent to lisa_dean@sandwell.gov.uk
The mobile library will visit supported living care homes and pre-school nurseries as well as supporting events and activities in libraries throughout the year.
People can explore the new mobile library when it is officially launched at the Oldbury Safer 6 campaign information roadshow in Oldbury Civic Square, Oldbury town centre, on Monday 7 October, 11.30am-2pm.
