New Year, New Start event promotes career opportunities

Young people in Sandwell will get the chance at a New Year event to seek help and guidance on job, educational and training opportunities.

Up to 40 local and national employers, apprentice and training providers and colleges keen to recruit and educate young people will be at the Connexions New Year, New Start Careers Fair.

Businesses, services and organisations including Barclays Bank, Severn Trent, the Royal Navy and the NHS will be attending.

Also at the fair at Sandwell Council House in Freeth Street, Oldbury, on Saturday 18 January, 10am-2pm, will be Sandwell Connexions advisers to give independent careers information, advice and guidance.

Councillor Danny Millard, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for skills and employment, said: “This is a very popular annual event to give young people the chance to see the many opportunities that are available to them as they plan their futures.

“This event seeks to inspire and motivate young people aged 14-19 by promoting the range of career opportunities available to them.

“Our Connexions careers advisers are very experienced at providing expert guidance and will be on hand to help and discuss the options in details.”

Councillor Millard urged parents to discuss the event with their children and consider taking them along.

Anyone wanting more information about the event should call the Connexions team on 0121 569 2955.

To avoid a rush on the day, parents and young people can book a convenient slot online in advance. Go to the event on Eventbrite to book.
