Still time to have your say on budget spend

Dudley Council bosses today urged people to make sure they have their say on one of the biggest investments in Dudley Council services in a decade.

Money has already been earmarked for leisure services, environmental work and tackling crime.

More than 1,000 people have already responded to the consultation.

Forecasts predict the council could have a “favourable” settlement from the government giving a bumper budget to spend on services. There are also plans for a 3.99 per cent increase in council tax to bring in more money to fund services. The council tax plans include a 1.99 basic rate increase as well as 2 per cent which will go directly to services for older and more vulnerable people. It equates to around 80p extra per week for a Band B property in the borough, or the cost of a litre of milk.

Councillor Steve Clark, cabinet member for finance, said:

The response to the consultation, in just a few weeks, has been very impressive, but there is still time for people to have their say.

We have set out a number of very clear commitments as part of the draft proposals but it is important we listen to local people to find out what is important to them.

The 12 week consultation is online and hard copies are available at libraries, leisure centres and Dudley Council Plus.

Councillors will agree the final budget in March next year after considering the results of the consultation.
