Sandwell libraries held a special event to thank their friends groups and volunteers.
The event was held at Tipton library and friends and volunteers were treated to afternoon tea served by the library staff. Entertainment was provided by Billy Spakemon, Tom Stanton and Blue Granite to say thank you to the friends groups and volunteers.
Councillor Bob Lloyd, cabinet member with responsibility for libraries also attended the event. He said: “This was a chance to spend an afternoon celebrating the best of Sandwell Libraries and Archives.
“Our friends groups and volunteers are a vital part of the work we do, and they really support us.”
Volunteers and friends groups get involved in events in Sandwell libraries and run groups such as knit and natter, games and music clubs and also help people searching for employment and with IT enquiries.
Friends groups also work hard all year raising funds and supporting library activities.
Councillor Lloyd added: “We are always on the look-out for more volunteers to help in our libraries. It’s a great opportunity to give something back to the community and can be a really rewarding experience.”
