Over 90% of pupils in Walsall offered a secondary school place of their choice

94% of pupils in Walsall have been offered a secondary school of their choice.

A total of 3,923 applications were received on time.

3005 of those applications (76.6%) received their first preference, 469 (12%) their second preference and 130 (3.3%) their third preference.

100% of on-time applications have been offered a place at a secondary school for September 2025. Parents and carers can choose up to five school preferences, and 3697 children received an offer of a place at one of their preferred schools.

“ This is an exciting day for many young people in the borough, and we’re so pleased to offer more children a school place of their preference.

We always encourage parents and carers to submit their applications on time and make use of all five preferences to avoid disappointment, and families have responded well to this.

As always, I want to thank our schools for their commitment and support and would take this opportunity to wish all the children who start their secondary education in September 2025 every success for the future. “

Councillor Pardeep Kaur, Portfolio Holder for Education and Skills
Walsall Council

There were 226 (5.8%) children who were allocated a place at a school which wasn’t one of their preferred options. Of these, 87 families had only included one preference on their application form.

The application process for school places is now entirely online, meaning parents can view their results on offer day by logging into Walsall Council’s School Admissions Portal. The council will also be sending emails to the families of all those children who submitted on time applications today to confirm their school allocation.
