Walsall Council has been successful in securing funding that benefit libraries across the Borough and improve services and digital infrastructure

A successful application to the Arts Council England Libraries Improvement Fund has secured £202,349 funding and this will enable the Council to invest in digital infrastructure and update resources for its seven libraries, mobile library and archive service.

Improvements over the next year will reduce the digital divide by updating equipment available to residents. Facilities will include WiFi printing which will enable residents to print from their own device whilst in any of the Borough’s libraries. Investment will also go into improving Walsall’s archives, touch-screen technology, study and homework facilities, and create flexible spaces within library buildings for events, exhibitions and community group meetings.

Councillor Garry Perry, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Resilient Communities, said,

“ We’re delighted to have secured this funding and it will help us to transform our library services.

Libraries are a fantastic resource for our residents, and they are an important resource that helps develop knowledge and skills in a variety of ways. These improvements will not only futureproof our services but help improve access to IT facilities and combat digital exclusion across the Borough. “
