New wellbeing services for Dudley carers

Dudley Council has launched a range of wellbeing services and therapies to help support people caring for a family member or friend.

The team behind Dudley Carers Hub, which launched in June 2018, will now also be working in partnership with Crossroads Caring for Carers (Sandwell) to provide even more support and advice, as well as wellbeing services to unpaid carers of all ages living in Dudley Borough.

Crossroads Caring for Carers has been commissioned by Dudley Council and together the two organisations will be working to deliver an extended and integrated information, advice, support and wellbeing therapy service to carers.

Crossroads will also be providing a bespoke carers services for young carers and young adults (aged 18-25), in recognition of the increasing numbers of younger people who are fulfilling caring roles.

Groups of local carers have been closely involved with the development of these services to ensure they are what carers need and want.

Chris Christie, CEO, Crossroads said:

Carers’ needs, choices and voices are at the heart of everything we do at Crossroads, so we are delighted to be working in partnership with Dudley Carers Hub to provide an integrated wellbeing service which will identify and prioritise the needs of carers across Dudley.
We know that the role of a carer can be as challenging as it is rewarding – by providing carers with access to the support and services they need to live their own lives healthily, we can help them to improve the quality of care they can deliver to those they care for, for longer.

Councillor Nicolas Barlow, cabinet member health and adult social care, said:

Dudley Carers Hub has been very successful in providing information, advice and support to many carers living in Dudley borough.
We are pleased to be working with Crossroads to extend our services and support to unpaid carers of all ages. It’s great that these extended services will include wellbeing therapies and support to help carers to cope and manage their own wellbeing. I am also particularly excited about the services and support we will be offering to younger carers.
