A very special visitor came to see patient Geoff Turner in the Intensive Care Unit at Walsall Manor Hospital – his beloved pet dog Karli.
Geoff, aged 82, has suffered heart failure and is receiving palliative care. His family mentioned to nursing staff just how much he loved his four legged friend.
“They asked who was looking after Karli and said we could bring her in to see him as my dad is an end of life patient and it would mean a lot,” explained Geoff’s daughter Linda Kent.
“So we did and she has been very well behaved – while loving the fuss and attention.”
Karli snuggled up to Geoff on his bed as well as keeping an eye on the comings and goings outside. Geoff’s granddaughter Rachel, aged 26, has been looking after his pet since her grandfather was admitted to hospital on Saturday 20 July.
Linda added: “Dad is a very independent man and just two weeks ago he was watching the England cricket team. He loves sport, football and rugby – and he cheers on the ladies’ teams!”
Senior Sister Angela Dixon said: “Karli is very precious to Geoff and we thought that at this time he would appreciate his pet being there. And as Linda says – she was the centre of attention.
“We hope Karli brought some comfort at this difficult time for Geoff and his family.”
