Sandwell residents can get involved in the build up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games this weekend.
The team behind Birmingham 2022 is counting down to the Commonwealth Games by taking an art-led community research project called ‘Common Ground’ on the road.
The project, which aims to connect communities across the West Midlands, rolls into New Square Shopping Centre, West Bromwich, on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
It invites people from across the region to have a conversation about the Games and to explore how Birmingham 2022 can benefit their community and create a legacy in the region.
Local artists and illustrators Room 0121 and Void One will be on hand to create a visual interpretation of the conversations taking place at the events and will help provide an understanding of how people feel about the Games coming to the region.
With Sandwell set to host swimming events at the Games, it’s an ideal opportunity for people to get involved and discuss how the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Smethwick will benefit the community for years to come.
Councillor Maria Crompton, cabinet member with responsibility for leisure, said: “We’re excited to be part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and are looking forward to hosting the diving and swimming events in Sandwell.
“We are here to listen to our residents and I encourage everyone from across Sandwell to get involved in this weekend’s event and have their say.”
