A call for communities to give what they can to save the hospice in Walsall.
The adored hospice in Walsall has released devastating news that they are now facing closure due to failing donations and rising costs. A significant amount of posts and fundraising pages have been set up on social media, exploring ways in which the community can come together and save the hospice.
One page set up by Colin Plant stated “Raising funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust because it would be devastating for so many sick children.”
The family of Isabella Lyttle, a Walsall school girl who lost her life aged 11 following her eight-year battle with cancer, have also shown support in saving the hospice.
Mark Lyttle, her father, said; “Please give what you can and share as far as you can, you never know, we have a few months to maybe somehow help them keep their doors open, Isabella and so many other children massively benefitted and still do from the most amazing place you could ever ask for. Acorns just can’t shut down.”
The hospice stated that the cost for providing their care is increasing yearly and they are currently facing a funding crisis as the total required to keep the hospice open have not been met.
It is estimated that the children’s hospice costs nearly £10 million a year to run and relies on fundraising for the majority of that total. Bosses commented on the issue and stated that they have now safeguarded the charity’s future to prevent further loss.
