Generous council staff donate Christmas presents

Sandwell Council staff have donated hundreds of presents for to be distributed to care leavers across the borough.

Staff from the council generously gave presents following an appeal from Sandwell’s corporate parenting team.

All 300 of Sandwell’s care leavers will receive a gift this Christmas. These are young people aged 18 to 25 who are no longer in care but are still given support and advice from Sandwell Children’s Trust and Sandwell Council.

Sandwell Council’s executive director of children’s services, Lesley Hagger is thankful for all the donations. She said: “Thank you so much to everyone who donated presents for care leavers this year.

“This year all 300 of our care leavers in Sandwell will receive a present thanks to the generosity of Sandwell Council staff.

“Thank you to Charlotte Moriarty, our Corporate Parenting Co-ordinator who has worked very hard in organising the appeal for presents, sorting them out and helping to wrap and fill gift bags.”

The presents are now with Sandwell Children’s Trust and are being distributed to care leavers in time for Christmas.

Frances Craven, Chief Executive, Sandwell Children’s Trust, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone and thank those who have donated presents.

“Our care leavers may not get any other presents this year so I know these gifts will be very much appreciated by the young people.

“Thank you to everyone who has donated gifts this year. It will make Christmas merrier for those who receive them.”
