Get in the mood for this year’s Birmingham, Sandwell & Westside Jazz Festival with a special performance by Sandwell’s Rock School bands in West Bromwich on Tuesday 9 July.
The SIPS Music and Arts Service Rock School summer concert starts at 7pm at Central Library in High Street. It’s free entry and light refreshments will be available.
The ensembles performing are all part of the Rock School bands that rehearse weekly during term time and include young people from different age groups.
The bands performing include Ukulele Rocks!, the Band Together and Band Together v2.0 junior rock bands and the senior rock band Tuesday Coffee Social. All bands perform a combination of well-known songs and original material.
Councillor Bob Lloyd, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for culture, said: “It’s fantastic that young people in the Rock School programme are showcasing their talents for this end of school year concert, which will be the perfect warm-up for the Birmingham, Sandwell & Westside Jazz Festival later this month.
“It’s a busy time for youth music in Sandwell, with the recent announcement that a brand-new music school will be built in West Bromwich with the City of Birmingham Orchestra and Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust – the first school of its kind in the country.”
The Birmingham, Sandwell & Westside Jazz Festival runs from 19-28 July and includes music events in libraries, museums, Sandwell Arts Café, parks and other venues across Sandwell’s six towns.
