Staff at Sandwell Council put on an afternoon tea event for people with dementia and their carers as part of Dementia Action Week.
Nearly 4,000 people in Sandwell are diagnosed with dementia.
The event was officially opened by Colin Marsh, a service manager at Sandwell Council, who spoke about the importance of such events and how the council is looking to create a secure future for those diagnosed with dementia.
More than 100 people came to Wednesbury Town Hall to see the Creative Arts group perform a show called The Good Old Days, which got everyone singing, dancing and clapping along.
The afternoon finished with more music while sandwiches and cake were served. It was clear from the faces of everyone there that they had a lovely time.
A series of information events and awareness sessions were held around Sandwell during Dementia Action Week with support from local voluntary and community organisations.
Councillor Farut Shaeen, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for living healthy lives, said: “We are proud of what Sandwell is able to offer people diagnosed with dementia, those at risk of a diagnosis and their friends and families.
“Council staff are working hard with the Clinical Commissioning Group to put together a dementia strategy that supports all and ensures the services in place work for them.
“I would like to thank all the staff who were involved in organising the afternoon tea and everyone who supported events and sessions throughout the week.”
