Halloween at museums 2019

Things kick off with a fossil finds session at Dudley Museum from 10.30am – 12 on Saturday 26 October. Children and interested adults can drop by with their geological finds and have them identified, whether fossil, mineral or gem, the museum’s expert will be on hand to advise on their finds.

The cone is hosting two craft session on 29 and 30 October, this time suitable for ages 7+. There’s a chance to make a glass Frankenstein’s monster with a Fused Frankie Glass Fusion on 29 October and a Fused Monster session on 30. Sessions run at 10.30, 11.30, 1 and 2pm, cost £6 and must be booked in advance.

The annual Trick and Treat event, returns to the cone Thursday 31 October from 10.30am to 6pm. Children can visit the site in their fancy dress, decorate a goody bag and then go trick and treating – a fun and safe event for all. Places must be booked in advance, children £3.50, accompanying adults are free.

Also on 31 October is the ever-popular Spooky Youth Craft Market, which gives young people the opportunity to dip their toe into the world of commerce and sell items they’ve made or traded on their own stall. This also runs 10.30am to 6pm and admission is free.

At Dudley Museum at The Archives, there’s a family Creepy Crawlies day on Friday 1 November from 10.30am to 2.30pm featuring crafts and activities with a bug theme; and the team will also be welcoming friends from Dudley Zoo for the day. Admission is free but there’s a £3.50 charge for craft activities.

There’s another chance to have a go at making something in glass with a glass fusion poppy session on Saturday 2 November suitable for ages 7+. Sessions run from 2 – 2.45 and 3 -3.45pm, cost £6 and must be booked in advance.

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member responsible for museums, said:

“There’s lots to do for children and families at our museums this half-term, with drop-in crafts, fused glass sessions and themed fun days. And for those people gearing up for Christmas, the craft market provides the perfect opportunity to shop for unusual and personal gifts that you may not be able to find on the high street.”
