A Dudley play centre has fought off stiff competition to scoop a top national award.
The Dudley Council-run Sycamore Adventure has won the play award at the national Children and Young People Now awards.
The award is provided to the service that has done the most to offer children and young people the opportunities to play freely, enjoy childhood and contribute to their social, emotional and physical development.
The judges looked for work that has enabled children to follow their own ideas and interests, and in their own way.
Other shortlisted services in the play award included Sporting Communities CIC, Spurgeons’ Saturdads project, University of Gloucestershire’s Gwealan Tops Adventure Playground and The Valley Project in Bradford.
Sycamore Adventure offers youngsters, whatever their ability, the opportunity to experience indoor and outdoor play.
Outside there’s sunken trampolines, play structures, a sand pit & boat, carved dragon, swings, slides and accessible water features.
Activities inside include a soft play pirate ship, which was installed earlier this year with funding from Aviva as well as sensory room, craft station and dressing up area.
