Residents are being reminded that there will be slight changes to bin collections over Christmas and New Year.
The majority of Sandwell residents will have no change to their bin collections during Christmas and New Year week. Only those who have collections on Fridays will need to put their bins out on an alternative day.
During Christmas week (week beginning 21 December), there will only be a change to Friday bin collections which would fall on Christmas Day. These bins will be collected two days later than usual on Sunday 27 December. All other collections (Monday – Thursday) will be carried out on the usual collection day.
During New Year week, (week beginning 28 December), there will only be a change to collections which would fall on New Year’s Day. These bins will be collected one day later than usual on Saturday 2 January. All other collections (Monday – Thursday) will be carried out on their usual collection day.
Councillor Maria Crompton, Deputy Leader of Sandwell Council said, “We have trying to ensure minimal disruption to bin collection services over the festive period.
“We will be making very few changes to bin collections this year – only residents with a Friday bin collection day will have their bins collected on a different day. All other residents should put their bins out as normal.
“Don’t forget to make the most of your blue lid recycling bin – cut up cardboard boxes or fold them down, and squash plastic bottles to help make more space.
“This year has been particularly challenging for everyone, including our waste service. However, despite the global pandemic, our waste teams have continued to work hard to keep essential bin collection services going.
“I would like to thank all of our waste teams who have worked hard throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The winter months will be an ongoing challenge for our services and I would ask our residents to please show your support to our bin crews by giving them a wave if you see them. Something so little can mean a lot during these times.”
Other reminders:
All rubbish and recycling must be inside bins with the bin lid down.
Please park considerately so our lorries can get down your street and empty your bins
Double bag tissues, wipes and masks if you have Covid-19 or suspect you have Covid-19 and put them in your household waste bin
Put your recycling loose in your blue lid bin
Increase space in your recycling bin by crushing, squashing and flattening your items
Don’t put gloves, masks or tissues in your recycling bin
Crews will always try to collect bins on time but if there are delays due to the weather or other issues, residents are asked to leave their bins out for collection and the crew will be there as soon as possible.
Garden waste collections are currently on their annual winter break. Any garden waste and real Christmas trees can be recycled at the tip, which is open by appointment only from 8am-4pm every day (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day) or cut up and placed in the garden waste bin ready for when collections restart in spring 2021.
