Sunday, 12 January is the annual service of thanksgiving to commemorate the life and work of Sister Dora. Her special relationship to Walsall and enduring legacy is marked each year with a special service and laying of a wreath under her town statue.
Walsall Mayor Councillor Paul Bott and Mayoress Christine Bott will attend the special 11.00 am service at St. Paul’s Church at The Crossing, Darwall Street, Walsall, WS1 1DA. The service is open to the public and anyone who wishes remember the tremendous contribution that Sister Dora made to the development of modern nursing techniques.
At 11.50 am, the Mayor will lead a procession to the statue of Sister Dora on the Bridge to lay floral tributes.
Mayor of Walsall Councillor Paul said: “Sister Dora’s work in Walsall during the 1860’s and 1870’s was pioneering. She was a gifted and visionary nurse and very much ahead of her time.
“Sister Dora helped develop a template for the modern and effective nursing methods that exist in this country, today. We will continue honour her contribution to the world of nursing and give thanks for the inspirational care and tireless service she once gave to the borough Walsall.”
