Sandwell Council and West Midlands Police continue to work together to ensure Sandwell residents and businesses are adhering to government restrictions.
During the recent national lockdown, hundreds of residents and businesses were advised about restrictions and laws that relate to the coronavirus pandemic.
Police officers and council officers spent time in the local community and took part in a number of enforcement days where the particular focus was to ensure Sandwell residents and businesses were adhering to government restrictions.
Sergeant Richard Phillips – Police lead for the Sandwell enforcement operations, said: “The partnership working in the area of enforcement has been very impressive from both the council and police teams.
“West Midlands Police has been working together with Sandwell Council extremely effectively, issuing directions to leave and fixed penalty notices and also closing down businesses continuing to break the law.”
Councillor Maria Crompton, Sandwell Council’s deputy leader, said: “Joint working on enforcement between Sandwell Council and the police is going very well.
“We want to work with residents and businesses to keep everyone as safe as they can be and enforcement is something we would rather avoid. But if people flout the coronavirus laws then they run the risk of being caught and fined.”
Last week both organisations issued a joint warning to shoppers urging them to avoid busy shops as much as possible and keep a distance from others.
Joint operations between Sandwell Council and West Midlands Police will continue in the run-up to Christmas.
