Around 40% of British drivers will be top to toe in tailbacks over the next few days as the annual Christmas pilgrimage gets underway.
A survey carried out by the relaunched British Motor Show – which returns in 2020 to a new venue and with a new organising committee backed by over 100 years of automotive industry experience – revealed that while 36% of drivers will be giving their cars a well-earned rest as much as themselves, over a quarter (28%) plan to get the red lights all around them by travelling over 100 miles to be with their loved ones over the holiday period.
A further 12% plan to travel between 50 and 100 miles, while a mere 8% are bringing up the ‘Rea’ by planning to travel just 5-10 miles.
The survey shows the sheer passion for driving in the UK is still as strong as ever, which is a message that the revamped show organisers want to ‘drive home’, with live, interactive elements and free show entry for children.
As well as a display of all the latest and greatest new cars, with manufacturers and dealers showing their flagship models, it will also have halls dedicated to classic cars, motorsport and a huge hall dedicated to electric cars and alternatively fuelled vehicles.
The ground-breaking new ‘Alternative Drive Experience” will be dedicated to electric, alternatively fuelled and hybrid vehicles and will give visitors the chance to experience first-hand what it’s like to drive an electric car – a first for many of the visitors to the show.
The organisers are expecting over 50,000 visitors through the doors between August 20th-23rd, dates which have been chosen to coincide with school holidays and make it as accessible as possible for all visitors.
Andy Entwistle, CEO and Show Director, said: “August may seem a long way away right now, but summer will be upon us before we know it. After all, it only feels like five minutes since last Christmas “The festive season might not be the most relaxing time of year to pass the time away on the British road network, but don’t get too stressed and treat other road users with respect. The driver next to you is just the same…”
Tickets for the show will represent terrific value at £18.50 for adults or £37 for families, but during launch week the show organisers are offering a limited time 25% discount via the show’s website at www.thebritishmotorshow.live
