Sandwell’s Public Health team will offer non-alcoholic drinks to people as part of Alcohol Awareness Week in a bid to highlight the benefits of reducing alcohol consumption.
The team will be offering the drinks at Sandwell Council House in Oldbury on Tuesday (12 November) lunchtime to raise awareness for the Alcohol Awareness Week, which runs from 11-17 November.
Lisa McNally, director of public health in Sandwell, highlighted that, aside from having a negative impact on individuals and their families, alcohol-related issues cost the NHS more than £3.5 million.
She said: “Alcohol plays a big role in many people’s lives and by making even small changes to our behaviour they can become healthier and happier.
“Reducing our alcohol intake lowers our risk of many serious health conditions and improves our mental wellbeing,” she added.
The Sandwell team will offer a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks that will show when you fancy a drink, it does not also have to contain alcohol. There are a whole range of really well crafted beers, wines and even spirits that are alcohol free and taste great.
She said people could pop along to meet the team, try out samples and discuss their relationship with alcohol. The drinks will be available in the main reception at Sandwell Council House in Oldbury town centre from 12.30-2pm on Tuesday (12 November).
