The victim and his family were subjected to a series of anti-Semitic abuse on a train, before a woman wearing a headscarf intervened and calmed down the abuser
A father, who wishes to stay anonymous, and his two young sons and wife, became victims of verbal assault on a London Tube. Their attacker, a middle-aged black man, began reading from an anti-Semitic Bible and hurling a series of offensive accusations at them.
The appalling incident was recorded on video by Chris Atkins, who was also a passenger riding the line between Hendon central and Covent Garden at the time. The scene was observed by a series of onlookers, who watched appallingly as the man began to shout and show signs of aggression.
The perpetrator started to accuse the Jews of beginning the slave trade. He also said they were responsible for the 9/11 terror attacks. He further told the man that he and his family were to become his slaves and perform his bidding.
Luckily, mother-of-two Asma Shuweik stepped in to calm down the situation and told the abuser to stop. Captured on video, the woman wearing a headscarf did not hesitate to intervene. After this, other people also attempted to step in-between the man and his family and calm the incident down.
The Jewish father has said they are “extremely thankful” for Asma for standing up for them. He stated: “We are certain that without her intervention and distraction, he would have continued his abuse which could have escalated to physical violence.”
Since the incident, the father and the mother-of-two have met up so he could have the opportunity to thank her in person. The man bought her flowers, and they discussed their experiences and childhoods. The pair have promised to keep in contact and gather an understanding of each other’s backgrounds.
Asma says: “Everyone can learn to coexist in a multicultural society. I think everyone should take time out of their lives to meet people from different backgrounds, not just believe what they see in the media.”
