Days after being given encouraging amounts of praise for giving away food to a rough sleeper, a restaurant in Kingswinford has been subject to horrific racist abuse online.
The restaurant, Robby’s Indian Fine Dining, gave away the food of a customer who tried to underpay their delivery driver. This good deed resulted in many people commending the actions of the driver and the restaurant’s owner, but the restaurant has since been hit with a string of racist TripAdvisor reviews by a troll.
The four reviews, claimed the business to be a “terrorist front” that was used by a “grooming gang”, the restaurant owner Mohammed Saeid told Black Country Live, who decided not to print the abusive reviews. Other reviews personally attacked the business and the staff.
Saeid, 27, said that he felt “sickened” after reading these reviews, and told Black Country Live, “It’s crazy to see such comments about different businesses within the area and the contents which it was used.” He also said that he was “baffled” that someone would go to such lengths to “damage a well-respected business and its reputation.”
The incident which initially sparked praise for the business occurred beforehand. It involved a customer drinking at a local pub who knew her order would be over £20, but she pulled out a handful of coins and told the driver, “There’s roughly about £10 here so take it or leave”. The driver, who delivered to her even though the kitchen was closed, left with the food, which was later given to a rough sleeper on Soho Road.
Saeid said that the rough sleeper was “a lot more grateful and thankful than someone who thinks we work hard to be insulted.” He also said that the incident by the customer highlights a dirty tactic that damages the hospitality business by wasting companies’ time and efforts.
The post about the incident was shared dozens of times, with many people taking to the restaurant’s Facebook page to commend the actions of the owner and driver. One person said, “Well done for giving the food to someone more deserving. So glad you didn’t give that horrible person the food. See you soon.” Another commented, “I’m really glad you didn’t give her the food, and you gave to someone else for free. People like her are vile; you’ve got her phone number – ban her.”
TripAdvisor has now deleted the racist reviews.
