Walsall Football Club teams up with the Council to champion the Borough’s future

Walsall Council is teaming up with Walsall Football Club and its charity arm, the Walsall Football Club Foundation, as part of an ambitious goal to shape the future of the Borough.

The two organisations are the latest to support We are Walsall 2040. This major initiative gives partners across the Borough an opportunity to ensure Walsall is a place where people want to live, work and visit over the next 20 years and beyond.

It provides a strategic framework for the Council and its partners to prioritise resources, develop shared ambitions, tackle inequalities and progress plans to lead and mould a Borough which works for everyone.

Tens of millions of pounds have been secured to transform the Borough over the next 15 to 20 years and the Council wants to engage as many people as possible in how that happens.

More than 10,000 residents, businesses and organisations are already being asked their views on what they want Walsall to look like in the future and numerous partners have already come on board.

These include Walsall College, the University of Wolverhampton, West Midlands Fire Service, Walsall Housing Group, One Walsall, West Midlands Police, Walsall Together and the Black Country and Integrated Care Board.

The new alliance with Walsall Football Club and Walsall FC Foundation further strengthens the We are Walsall 2040 message and will kickstart conversations across communities.

Councillor Tim Wilson, programme sponsor for We are Walsall 2040 and Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services said: “I’m absolutely delighted Walsall Football Club and the Walsall FC Foundation are teaming up with the We are Walsall 2040 campaign.

“The club has been an integral part of Walsall life for the last 134 years and retains a special place in many people’s hearts in the Borough. Thanks to the Walsall FC Foundation, the club is reaching out to more people in the community than ever before.

“Together we can spread the message of We are Walsall 2040 to sections of the community we might not otherwise be able to reach, which is an exciting prospect.”

Director of Walsall FC Foundation, Adam Davy, said: “The Walsall 2040 project is an important piece of work as the Town and Council make plans for the future and how we can best support residents in years to come.

“I am sure that the Club and Foundation can make a huge contribution to this as we all work to give Walsall a positive path into the future for the people who live here, especially the young people growing up in the Town. We are looking forward to working on this and helping in any way we can.”
